L-Shaped vs. Straight Desk: What Changes in the Room

A straight desk takes one strip along a wall, about 19 in deep. An L-shaped desk takes a corner: the listings put the whole L at 39-43 in deep, so it uses more floor and gives a second surface at right angles.

The footprint

Straight AODK desks are 18.9-21.3 in deep. For four L-shaped desks the listing gives the depth of the whole footprint, return included: 39.37 in on the 51 in, 43-43.31 in on both 61 in desks and the 63 in. That is the real difference in a room - roughly twice the depth from the wall.

For the 53 in and 79 in L-shaped desks the depth of the return isn't published, so it can't be planned from the listing.

Left or right

All six L-shaped desks are listed as reversible: the return or hutch is assembled on whichever side the corner needs. So is the drawer chest of the straight 63 in desk.

Who an L suits, and who not

An L suits a room with a free corner and a setup that spreads out - two monitors, a PC on display, paperwork beside the keyboard. It doesn't suit a short wall between a door and a window, or a room where the desk has to sit in the middle. There a straight desk like the 48 in, 59 in or 55 in fits better.

Sizes are the manufacturer's feature text where it gives them, and the Amazon listing data otherwise. Where the two disagree, the product page says so.
